There are some TV shows that are never forgotten. They’re watched over and over again, and even loved by generations far removed from the original air time. Luckily, when shows such as the much loved “Friends” ends, nostalgia kicks in and we find ways to keep the stories going.

One way we do this is by throwing themed parties, dressing up as our favorite characters, littering our homes with “Friends” party decor  and memorabilia…

You can also give your guests party favors as they arrive.

If you’re looking for ways to keep the “Friends” TV show alive, then grab a “Friends” Cardboard Cutout and take a look at these following ways to use it.

How to Throw A Friends TV Show Theme Party

Throwing a Friends themed party doesn’t take as much planning as you might think. However, there are several factors that you should consider.

Music

For any party, the music sets the mood. But for a themed party, the music needs to represent all that the party is and should be. It needs to fit.

One of the best ways to do this is to pool the soundtracks from the show onto one playlist and use that as the background to your dinner or activities planned. Good songs to include are, “smelly cat” and “I’ll be there for you.”

You can also find a projector, or simply use your TV and broadcast the shows. Start with the very first episode, your favorite episode, or pick the episode that most closely matches your themed party. Either way, you’ll have an interesting backdrop to set the tone throughout the party.

Activities

Themed parties often include activities. These can range from the generic fun such as bean bag toss to full-on, well-planned party games that represent the theme.

A themed photo booth would be fun, especially if you make some friends photo booth props. You can DIY or order some professional cardboard cutout props such as Phoebe’s guitar, the Hugsy penguin, Marcel the monkey, or a turkey head with sunglasses.

Put together a trivia game to find out who’s the ultimate friends fan!

Food

Simply having food (maybe food they eat frequently on the show), is enough to satisfy the theme and your guests.

You can serve a trifle and put a sign on it that says, “Rachel’s Trifle. Or, serve cake with a diy cake topper like the one where they got married. Along the same lines, you could make cupcakes with mini cupcake toppers. And don’t forget Ross’s turkey sandwich with the gravy-soaked “moistmaker” in the middle.

If you have a chalkboard, you can write the menu on it like in the show.

Party decorations

Any themed party needs decorations that create the look and feel of the theme.

If you’re throwing a “Friends” themed party, then you might want to dress the place up with “Friends” TV show merchandise, place a “Friends” sticker or wall decal here and there, pass out or wear a “Friends” t-shirt. You can also add subtle New York elements since that’s where the show takes place.

Here are a few other ways to create a “Friends” feel at your party:

  • Add a dress-up station for your friends – with lookalike Rachel, Ross, Joey, Chandler or Monica outfits. Or for true diehards, you can dress up as characters only the biggest fans will know, like “Fat Monica”, “Armadillo Ross”, or Chandler’s drag queen dad. Supporting characters are great too, like Mr. Treeger the superintendent, Chandler’s on-off girlfriend Janice, Mr. Heckles the downstairs neighbor, or Ross’s first wife Carol. There are so many to pick from!
  • Recreate scenes or locations in the show – such as the fountain in the opening credits,  the “Central Perk” coffee shop, Chandler and Joey’s apartment, or get some cutouts or wall murals of the unforgettable Lazyboy chairs or the foosball table
  • Dress your place up like your favorite characters’ home
  • Pass out “Friends” TV show gifts, popular “Friends” memorabilia or accessories
  • Use Cardboard Cutouts of your favorite characters
