If you had to make a list of some of the most beloved superheroes to ever be created, Spider-Man would undoubtedly be right at the top.

Created in 1963 and first appearing in “Amazing Fantasy #15,” Stan Lee and Steve Ditko’s creation immediately captured the hearts of a generation of kids. But it was that first Sam Raimi-directed film that shattered box office records that cemented his reputation for all time.

Current Spiderman actor Tom Holland has appeared in five Marvel Cinematic Universe films so far, starting with “Captain America: Civil War” and going all the way up through the recently released “Avengers: Endgame.” His second solo adventure, “Spider-man: Far From Home,” has just hit theaters and before you throw your villains and superheroes-themed party, here’s what you need to know about this gripping cinematic adventure.

“Spiderman: Far From Home” Movie Details

The Plot (limited spoilers)

“Spiderman: Far From Home” picks up approximately eight months after the conclusion of “Avengers: Endgame,” meaning that Peter Parker (and indeed, the rest of the world) are still dealing with the devastating climax from the end of that film.

Peter Parker, to his credit, seems to be getting along quite well – at least on the surface. After having disappeared for five years at the end of “Avengers: Infinity War,” he’s not only gotten his life more or less back to normal but he’s ALSO gearing up for an exciting European vacation with his high school. Finally, he’ll be able to hang up the costume for a little while and focus on just being a kid.

… but of course, that’s not what ends up happening.

While in Europe, Peter meets Mysterio – a character that anyone who has ever read a Spiderman comic knows is probably not what he appears to be. Quentin Beck (Mysterio’s alter ego) not only claims to be a hero like Peter, but he claims to be from a different version of Earth – one that was destroyed by a series of monsters that now pose new threats to our planet.

Spider-Man and Mysterio team up to try to save the planet – but is Quentin Beck all that he claims to be? You’ll have to see the movie to find out.

Note that “Spiderman: Far From Home” marks the official end of “Phase Three” of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – meaning that it’s more of an epilogue to “Endgame” than a step forward. It DOES, however, set the stage for another ten years of dynamic, exciting storytelling in its closing minutes. This is absolutely one of those situations where you’ll want to avoid spoilers at all costs so that you can go in “cold” and just see where the film takes you.

The “Spiderman: Far From Home” release date was in July, 2019.
